About Ramsey Chiangus

  • Ramsey Chiangus is owned and operated by Bill and Linda Ramsey along with their son, Matt. The wintering and feeding facilites are located near Grand Island, NE with the summer grazing program is located in Webster County, NE.

  • Ramsey Chiangus focuses their breeding efforts on developing terminal hybrid composite black, polled breeding bulls. Research has shown that the use of terminal-cross sires, selected for growth and carcass traits when used with crossbred cows, selected for maternal traits , can increase pounds of weaned calf per cow exposed up to 25 percent over straight production. At the same time , commercial cow calf producers can make rapid genetic progress in highly heritable traits through selection within a breed. All of the Ramsey Chiangus breeding cattle offered for sale are the result of planned matings between registered bulls and registered females. This allows us to offer cattle with hybrid genetics and the predictability of registered cattle.

  • In addition to growth and carcass traits, Ramsey Chiangus pays attention to other traits such as calving difficulty, birth weights, scrotal circumference, muscling and disposition.

  • Before bull selections are made Ramsey Chiangus asks the cow-calf producer a series of questions to insure that the proper selections are made. 1) How are the selected bulls to be used (purpose)? 2) Under what conditions (feed, labor, present herd status) are the bulls expected to perform (situation)? 3) Based on the purpose and the situation, what traits are most important (priorities)?

  • Ramsey Chiangus is affiliated with feedlot partners that offer a feeder calf "buy-back" program and/or retained ownership feeder financing.  Please contact us for more details.
